Celebrating the Wright Brothers’ Legacy

Wilbur Wright’s 150th Birthday, April 16 – Celebrated on Tuesday April 18, 2017 with First Flight Elementary School. Wilbur & Orville stopped by to meet the 4th grade students, tell their story of the First Flight and answer their many questions. One student came very close to guessing Wilbur’s “true” age!

National Aviation Day & Orville Wright’s 146th Birthday – August 19, 2017 at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. The overcast skies kept the OBX Skydivers on the ground, but hundreds of Park visitors enjoyed the flyovers of vintage airplanes and rescue helicopters, NASA’s Centennial Trailer and so many other activities.

114th Anniversary of Powered Flight – Our biggest celebration December 16 & 17, 2017. This year the First Flight Society and the National Park Service recognize the aviation service and history of U.S. Air Force beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Wright Brothers National Memorial Park.
It is the 90th birthday of the First Flight Society, and Capt. Elrey Borge Jeppesen, father of the “little black book” of navigatin charts and founder of the Jeppesen Company, will be inducted into the Paul E. Garber Shrine. Park admission is free on December 17.
