The First Flight Society Presents
Wilbur Wright's Birthday
Celebration
Honoring the Birthday of Aviation Pioneer Wilbur Wright
Event Description
Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867. Every year, the First Flight Society celebrates his birthday on or around that day. Last year we held a luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn on April 16, around the theme of “The Impact of Wilbur’s Choice of Kitty Hawk on the Development of the Outer Banks.”
This year, we are switching venues to Jennette’s Pier, where we had the Wright Brothers Day luncheon on December 17 last year. It will be an evening event, focusing on being a fun birthday party, with cocktails and snacks instead of a seated meal. We will have live music and The Spirit of Wilbur Wright. If you are not a First Flight Society member, your ticket price will go towards a one-year membership in the Society.
Sponsorship
The auction includes signed items from First Flight Society Honorary Members and sponsor donations. Please contact the First Flight Society if you would like to sponsor.

About Wilbur Wright
Wilbur Wright, born on April 16, 1867, was the elder of the two Wright brothers who achieved the first powered, sustained, and controlled heavier-than-air human flight on December 17, 1903.
Known for his analytical mind and methodical approach, Wilbur was instrumental in solving the problems of flight control and stability. His public demonstrations in Europe in 1908 and 1909 convinced the world that the Wright brothers had indeed conquered the air.
Wilbur Wright Day celebrates not just his birthday but also his enduring legacy of innovation, perseverance, and the spirit of human achievement that continues to inspire aviators and dreamers worldwide.
