The First Flight Society’s primary mission is to memorialize Orville and Wilbur Wright, first in the world to successfully achieve powered flight in a heavier than air machine, on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. First Flight Society invites and promotes visits to the Wright Brothers National Memorial, so all may see the birthplace of powered flight. First Flight Society contributes to the advancement of aviation through programs, activities, education and the arts.

Save the date! December 17th, 2020 is the 117th anniversary of powered flight. The First Flight Society will be honoring Frank Caldwell as the 2020 Paul E Garber Shrine inductee.
Like every other event held this year, this will be different than previous years. There will be a large Virtual element to this years celebration. More details will be coming soon.
The Paul E Garber honoree is selected annually by a high-level panel appointed by the First Flight Society, from among numerous nominations submitted from around the world as well as compiled lists of qualified candidates. A portrait of Frank Caldwell will be unveiled and presented at the ceremony on December 17th, 2020, celebrating the 117th Anniversary of the Wright Brothers First Flight.

First Flight Society Giving Day is August 19th, 2020!
FFS Giving Day offers First Flight Society supporters the chance to come together and make a tremendous cumulative impact. This year Giving Day is on National Aviation Day.
You can help us make First Flight Society Giving Day a big success! In the spirit of the Wright Brothers, donate to the FFS Annual Fund during Giving Day, August 19th!
Make plans to join First Flight Society for our National Aviation Day Event on August 19th. We will be celebrating National Aviation Day and Orville Wright’s birthday at the Dare County Regional Airport (MQI). There will be representatives from First Flight Society and several other Aviation and Outer Banks organizations, as well as educational displays. Exhibitors include Kitty Hawk Kites, Elizabeth City State University, and the Military Aviation Museum. The Military Aviation Museum will be bringing one of their World War II warbirds!
Free and fun for the whole family. Event hours will be 10:00 AM-4:00 PM.

- Meet members and learn about the First Flight Society
- Aviation static displays: Navion, Caravans, Med Flight Helo, Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) C-172, and ECSU simulator
- Learn about the ECSU STEM Progams
- Visit the Airport Museum and learn about the WWII squadrons that had special training at NAAS Manteo (the origin of this airport).
Weather permitting, the airport commercial operators will be offering the following opportunities for a fee:
· Open cockpit biplane, helicopter and warbird tours over the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina!
· Tandem Skydiving!
